It's been a week. And to cap it all I had my first earthquake today. So did most of Greece, but I was in the Carrefour doing my shopping and things fell off shelves. Just thought I'd let you know that Im living on the front line here.
Apart from that, Ive been sandpapering for most of the week. Not my favourite job, in fact it's up there with ironing as things I would happily never do again in my life. But needs must. Adverts are running in papers and on the net and people are contacting me. it's all go. Trouble is, Italy is still on holiday. Well, it was Epiphany and the streets were filled with little children singing Christmas songs and reenacting the arrival of the Magi. Modica decided to have a notte bianca on 5th Jan. most cities do this in the summer, but not here. they chose the coldest night of the year for the shops to stay open and people to revel in the streets till 4am. It wouldn't happen in Stockport, but then I suppose it does on a Saturday night. the only difference between Stockport and Modica is the amount of vomit on the street the next morning.

New Year, new start....
2006 finds me in Sicily, a long way from Naples and from all that it had to offer. Now Im based in Siracusa, though am setting up a business in Modica, about 80 km away towards Ragusa. Why? Well, Modica is bloody lovely. Enchanting even. Ive been swept away by the light, the food, the kindness of the people and perhaps not least, the price of property.
I am now the owner of 4 houses and a warehouse in MOdica, and soon to add another, a piece of paradise in the countryside outside the town. And the reason for all this property investment? Well, Im joining a particular ratrace in the hope of making some money for myself and starting up a holiday lettings/(property management business. So far so good. Now comes the hard bit which involves paying lòarge sums of money to various newspapers to run adverts. God, it's expensive. Let's hope it pays dividends. At least I can make the website myself. And have done... hurry hurry to www.modicasa.com and see whats on offer in this part of the world.
Otherwise Ive spent my Christmas eating good food and stripping doors and windows. Next week sees painting, and water pipes.. it's all go. And the sales start on 6 January so Ill be out there buying all the furniture I can lay my hands on to furnish my holiday flats.
I don't know what will become of this blog. I hope it won't be an endless list of do's and don'ts for renovating houses, but you never know. At least before long I will have a fixed telephone line and connecting via my mob ile won't be such a chore. I will of course, keep you posted. Promise.
